a change of course

As a result of the feedback South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) got from the workshop they decided at their Cabinet meeting yesterday* to change the way they are seeking a partner to take on the Park. Instead of a formal bidding process a panel of senior people from SCDC are going to hold talks with the organisations who may be interested in running the Park in the hope of finding a solution.

In principal this is good way to proceed but unfortunately this new strategy does nothing directly to address the funding gap which is the underlying problem. Whichever way SCDC comes at this they have got to address the funding gap, and in a way that's sustainable in the long term. That excludes an annual grant from SCDC as an option as that really can't be relied upon.

The Campaign are talking to SCDC about how a charitable trust might take on the Park if this gap could be filled, but we've yet to find any way that could happen and neither has anyone else so the Park still remains under threat.
