Cambridge Sports Lakes recommended to run the Park

A report published today recommends that South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) agree to the selection of Cambridge Sports Lakes Trust to run Milton Country Park. A final decision will be made at the full council meeting next Thursday.

We're glad a choice has finally been made and the Park's future now appears to be secured.

However we would suggest some caution. As SCDC's own document makes clear the Trust have a only limited tangible assets and investments and they are relying on significant levels of corporate sponsorship and donations to fill the funding gap over the next three to five years while they try to make the park a stand-alone financial operation. We know, because we looked into this ourselves, that this is a very hard thing to do and they must succeed if the Park is to survive.

The campaign has already been fundraising for whoever takes on the Park and that will continue. Our "Pledge for the Park" campaign has already got over £13,000 per year pledged plus one off donations of over £6,000. If you want to pledge online you can do so at www.PledgeForThePark.com - there's also a form there you can print off for people who don't have Internet access.
