A place for people who do not have gardens to go and relax
  – Lorna Pepper

It is a peaceful, relaxing escape from the workaday world.
  – Chriss Marston

i have been visiting the park since before it was a park its a part of my eveyday life if it were to go there would be nowhere for me to go my life and my memories of my late husband would go with it.and thats just me what about the disabled from the hospice in milton where would they go.
  – Susan Barber

Due to my ill health I have not been able to visit the park yet. But I would like the option to do so and not forced to travel far away to enjoy a natural environment. Making wildlife homeless is inexcusable, the closing of parks will have an effect on the quality of life not only for the wildlife, but also on the people that are local to them. But the biggest effect should be on the conscience of those who want to close them. Nature can survive without humans, but we cannot survive with out nature.
  – Andrea Cope

Places such as the park are rare in the North of Cambridge & of great value for relaxing and education. It would be a waste to loose it & perhaps the council should look at alternatives such as selling off the catering franchise to help pay for the park
  – David Baxter

It's just a really wonderful place. I can't believe that the council would want to close a place like that. And 230 days is very soon. It's just so awful. It's also where my dog first swam!
  – Ellie Chapman

Obesity.Shutting down recreational areas makes people stay inside.
  – Peter Lever

I feel it is just a scapegoat because of all the capping.a lot can be done to save it so why. Costs reduced and revenue brought in!
  – Sarah Clark

it's a good place to go and relax
  – Ian Millard

It is a key part of the character of the village and a facility used by many residents. There are virtually no other facilities in the village and it is also valuable for wildlife
  – Rodalyn Clark

A beautiful resource laid to waste, Travellers take over site, Area falls into disrepair encouraging vandalism etc
  – Neil Clarke

There is so much pressure to build houses that land has stupid values in this region; ironically, the more houses they build the more we need our open spaces. I live near Royston and value beyond measure the opportuniy to walk around open spaces; it would be so much better if they were 'proper' parks like Milton and not just footpaths through fields. We need more, not less. Once they're gone, they're gone forever and that is a tragedy. This is so short sighted. WHY, WHAT are the reasons given? It's probably the land value that is attractive, the residents and everyone who visits don't count as £sd unfortunately.
  – Margaret Wilson

Closing open spaces rather than maximising their potential seems to run contrary to the government's Every Child Matters ideals of young people staying healthy and the build up to the 2012 Olympics. It's also just a lovely open space to enjoy a walk in.
  – Kirstin Croney

There is no alternative recreational activity of this sort within easy comutable distance.
  – Don Maclennan

Area is managed at present and if left to decline will end up being turned into something else - travellers park etc
  – Alistair Bailey

The park is such an asset to Milton and the North side of Cambridge. It was a major reason for moving to Milton rather than Chesterton and I can't think of the equivalent place nearby where I would walk my dog, she absolutely loves it. I also can't bear to think what would happen to the land if it was not maintained. How do you make the site secure from trespassers, vandals and what happens if there is an accident in the water? What about the lovely war memorial? I am seriously concerned and am very willing to be actively involved in helping it stay open. Is there a friends of MCP fund I can contribute to?
  – Dr Duncan Simpson

I used to take by grand children to Milton Park every week when they were small - I'd site them on the bench at lunchtime and give them a banana - then we'd go to the park where I'd talk to other grandparents and we would feed the ducks - I have such fond memories of this time and how sad it would be if others could'nt share this experience in today's society.
  – Betty O'Brien

Milton country park is one of Cambridge's most beautiful landmarks. I am only 16yrs old and have enjoyed going there my whole life as has my sister. She is now expecting a baby and I'd hate to think that it wouldn't be able to experience the park like we did. Its also a place me and my boyfriend often go to reflect and has been a big part of our relationship. Id be devastated if that was taken away
  – Kim James

It is one of the very few green spaces near to Cambridge city that is easily reachable by bus. As I do not have a car I am limited to where I can go for a pleasant country walk, away from traffic and the city centre. It would be very much missed.
  – Sheila Roberts

There are few enough natural environments in which to walk around Cambridge without getting rid of one of the best.
  – Chris Blaylock

House bulding is increasingly in the East of England, and we must retain 'green lungs' for the larger population in places such as this country park.
  – Alan Tait

Loss of excellent orienteering teaching location
  – David Carter

Most people comment on the effect this closure will have on 'humans'. Our species is capable of adapting to any environment so the concern should be what will happen to other species that consider this their only habitat!
  – Jackie Cockrill

The Park is an invaluable asset to the community. There is nowhere else similar in the vicinity. It is important to have such a resourse of walks through grounds with trees and water and wildlife. The thought of the Park closing is exceedingly sad. A way to keep it running must be found. We all need such a wildlife area close to hand.
  – Sharon Bellard

Milton Country Park is an amazing and unique retreat from hectic Cambridge life. There is no where else like it in the area and it would be a great loss to the whole community
  – Ethna Prosser

there is nothing similar which would meet the local need, should the park close.
  – Vanessa Palmer

For years I have gone to the park, first with my children and now with my dog. There are very few places near Cambridge where young children or dogs can run around freely and safely. It would be very short sighted to get rid of such a valuable resource, especially at a time when there is so much emphasis on people keeping fit and healthy, doing more exercise, not to mention the need to avoid childhood obesity. Milton is a very built up area with few natural spaces, it is absured to want to close the park.
  – Catherine Walker

I can not belive the money is not there to provide for this lovely park when you look at the money wasted in other areas . Both my children have learnt to ride their bikes at milton and have enjoyed many moments experiencing the wonderful wildlife and being outside in the fresh air . More and more houses are being built in this area mostly with tiny gardens ,so its good to be out in a wonderful place like this on our doorstep .
  – Mark Vining

Milton Country Park is a place where you can get away from the rat race of Cambridge, relax and enjoy the wonderful habitats that have been created out of an industrial site. It helps me to cope with living in a town.
  – Veronica Symonds

I think it would be a tradgedy if this beautiful space would be lost to people living and working in this area. There are few enough green spaces to be enjoyed and surely this planned closure can only have a negative impact on the environment. I don't know how this can be justified as whenever I visit the park it is always busy with other joggers, dog walkers, families with young children learning about nature and feeding the ducks etc.
  – Amanda Dewey

I think the park provides a nice area for many different people to be outside. It is always busy and it has a nice friendly feel to it.
  – Hanna Beaumont

Milton Park is one of a very limited of open country areas around Cambridge. Whilst it is appreciated that the cost of provision and upkeep are always issues, the park should be given a priority so ensure it is retained.
  – D.j Barrett

One of the few safe places for children to burn off energy, and enjoy the benefits of woodland in an area where this type of environment is lacking.
  – Frances New

This provides a vital green lung for the people of Cambridgeshire and is easily accessible to many.
  – Sylvia Overton

It is a small gem, and a very rare place for both city and country dwellers in and around this area! Within the city of Cambridge itself there are 'greens' and open spaces where people gather, play etc. These greens/open spaces are immensely valuable in their own right, but Milton is a quiet and sensitively managed area of water and woodland where children can play, run and enjoy the immediacy of being outside: mud, water, trees, birds, water creatures - which because of the sensitive management are together within a very mixed homogenious natural setting. Either deliberatly (via events put on by the park management), or by gradual fun osmosis, children and others are able to learn of, take into their beings and enjoy something of the immediacy of natural interactions. Surprisingly in this wonderfully small city this seems to be the only, and so incredibly special place where this is possible; also surprisingly in such a rural county Milton County Park remains very rare. Agriculture being so all pervasive, and so mono-culture there are very few area/places where it is possible to just 'go for a walk'. Or where it is possible to be able to take children happily and safely for a play/walk. Wimpole and RSPB Sandy come to mind, but the very relative expanse of these make contained Milton even more special, rare and something worth fighting to keep.
  – Kati Preston

No where left for off road riding. Loss of amenties available to people of all income brackets.l
  – Sylvia McPeak

I visited the park on New Year's day and the car park was full. It's always busy at weekends if the weather is good. I can't think of any other similar areas locally where there is so much space to walk.
  – Nicola Burton

i cannot beleive that the council would even think about closing such a lovely place. I take my son every weekend and hope to be able to take my daughter when she is a little older. The council should stop wasting money on things that do nothing for people and invest is this beatiful place.
  – Chris Bacon

The country park is a beautiful relaxing place to go. It is very popular with all kinds of people and is a safe, clean and educational place for families to take their young children. It would be a great loss to S. Cambridgeshire to lose this and I believe that we should do everything that we can to stop this from happening. As far as I am concerened the more green areas that can be saved in urban Cambridge the better for everyone.
  – Lisa Matthams

The Park is a very good asset to the people of Cambridge. It allows me to take regular exercise and my child to have fun looking at all the animals and plants .She also enjoys the play equipment. The closure of the Partk does not meet with the governments aim to increase the health of the nation and reduce obesity !!
  – Claire Beressi Jones

Two years ago we moved from Cherry Hinton over the border to Suffolk, we still own our house in Cherry Hinton. Even though we are 15-20 minutes away we still visit the Park. Apart from the categories I have ticked we recognise the significant amount of wildlife in form of insects, birds, plants and mammals. As well as keen walkers and nature watchers this kind of facility is valuable for the education of our children and their children and their appreciation of the values of a nature park so close to a city and encourage them and others in developing and sustaining these rather than destroying them and replacing them with houses that will contribute even more to CO2 and global warming. Although Cambridge is surrounded by countryside and public paths, however this is a nature area that co-exists with the ability for citizens to play and take part in all sorts of recreation activites safely.
  – Trevor Harris

It would be seen as irresponsible and a dereliction of duty to close the park. All plans for new developments in the region show the provision of country parks/recreation areas as being desirable. It is vital to human well being to have such a facility especially when living near busy roads, sewage works and a landfill site. Here we have that facility already up and running and it is considered one (if not the only) reason why living in Milton is tolerable. Remove the park and people will want to move out further from Cambridge, increasing the amount of commuter traffic. The facilities here are good for access to Cambridge/Science Park by bike, foot and bus, why force people out? More housing is planned for the Cambridge side of the A14, is the Country Park not an easily accessed resource for any future increase in population? A great deal of financial and human resources have been spent on establishing the park, S.C.D.C. would be seen as negligent in their use of resources if they cannot find a way to continue running this facility.
  – Judith Lemon

As more and more development work is being carried out in Cambridge to cater for its ever-growing number of inhabitants we need to retain some areas of green outside of the colleges that are free to access for people to take their children, takes walks, enjoy the sunshine and especially to enjoy the outdoors.
  – Rachel Hawley

I do not live in the area but my place of work is located nearby within the St John's Innovation Centre in Cowley Road. I use the Milton Country Park to take a break from my desk and enjoy a short walk in pleasant surroundings. The closure of the park would remove an area where one can safely walk without being run over by cars and trucks.
  – Eddie Davis

I'm horrified by the thought of losing the park. My toddler pleads to go feed the ducks and fish, spot a squirrel, pick up leaves and use the playground. As a parent who believes getting outside to explore everyday is essential for child and sanity of parent, we love and really value our country park.
  – Anne Rowbottom

To lose this marvellous facilty would be disgraceful. We are already critically short of natural amenities in this area and to even consider the possibilty of park closure is something that must be resisted by all visitors and residents who have any degree of respect for all of the tireless volountary effort that goes into preserving the amenity. God bless all efforts to save the country park.
  – Colin and glenda Plummer

Milton Country Park is to north Cambridge what Wandlebury is to the south - we need to keep that balance.
  – Catherine McManus

Although Cambridge central has its attractive points, this end of town leaves much to be desired in that respect. Working on the Business Park, Milton Park is one of the only spaces you can get away from the purpose-built jungle that is CB4. Taking that away would make it just that little bit more difficult working here. Taking a little respite in a green space is extremely valuable for your morale. Don't destroy that for this area!
  – Rachel Haverfield

In a time where green open space is repidly decreasing, we must strive to ensure that these rare parks are kept for both ourselves and our future generations.
  – Sarah Ambrose

Because our children haven't got the power to fight for this, we as parents have to do it for them. We don't need to shut down something beautiful, educational and something we can all share, the loss would be too great.
  – Ben Schofield

I enjoy and learn from exposure to wildlife and the open air, the Park is great for this. The mixture of trees, open space and water are beautiful and relaxing, but also offer a valuable site for many animal and plant species. It is important for young people especially, to experience the way in which such sites can be a valuable resource for the community and wildlife.
  – Murray Corke

My daughter recently enjoyed a fantastic outdoor birthday party in the park, organised by a friend, with lots of activities focussed on nature and the seasons, stimulating body, mind and social interaction in a way that another visit to Laser Quest or the bowling alley would not have been able to do. The park is perfect for treasure hunts, on foot or by bike, and all sorts of other activities that are just right for children's birthday parties.
  – Nienke de Maat

It's a very short sighted proposal by the council who have a duty to help provide access for all residents to the countryside .Which seem's that it is being eaten up and marginalised by the housing market and desperation by councils to save moeny and Make moeny by selling off the assets of the local population .The council is there to work for the local population and they are paid by the local population to do that. The Park is used by children for educational ways, such as nature observation , Art in the Park, Art in the Dark ect which is immensly enjoyed by all ages. The Park is also used by for adults from group homes with learning and physical disability's for walks and this would reduce their access yet another facility. The council would be failing in their duty if they allow this to go ahead.
  – Kerry Biamonti

A huge nymber of ground animals and birds have made their home in the park since it opened. It would be a disgrace if this area was re-developed!
  – Alan Coates

there is little enough for younger people our of summer that to close this or any park would be socially irresponsible
  – Paul Margiotta

It would ruin the 10k running route that me and my colleagues do at lunchtimes if the park was closed - part of the route is a couple of laps of the park.
  – Andy Bleach

It is a "lung" and a sound barrier for the A14 Also a refuge for wild life including bats and nightingales which I heard beautifully on an evening walk
  – Liz Roman

The Local Councillors should help themselves to a breath of fresh air and see first hand how many people of Cambs consider Milton Country park worth a visit. I wasthere yesterday (14/1/2007) and it was packed - even had trouble finding a parking space.
  – Robert FitzGerald

No phones, no TV, no XBOX, No Computer - Its a Parents dream - Good ,sometimes dirty, honest and cheap fun for all the family. Its a place where i can communicate with my kids without the distractions of modern living.
  – Bob Dalby

It is an interesting place to visit.
  – David Allard

It would be a crime to close the park. it is such a tremendous place of nature, and should be around for many more generations to come and enjoy.
  – Jeanette Eglen

My wife and I love to visit the park every time we visit Milton. As tourists we would be extremely sorry to see this park close.
  – Leslie and Joan Wilkie

Cambridge has very few large, open spaces for everyone to enjoy and the loss of Milton Country Park would remove a source of enjoyment for a very large community.
  – Carol Churcher

My children love coming tomilton park and running about and seeing all the wildlife and it would be a huge shame to lose this park at a time when the government is trying so hard to get young people into excersise
  – Charlie Gethings

Its a peaceful place to go and the children love it, its really nicely laid out and the tea rooms are fabulous. There's nothing better than wandering round and my favourite parts are the wooded areas, the views over the water and the sculptures.
  – Nancy Voak

A real traversity if this beautiful open space is taken away. There are not any other areas of beauty in Milton, Tesco's is most certainly not!
  – Sumita Bhola

A fantastic facility used by all age groups, brings very diverse people together, promoting community harmony. Great refuge for different wildlife, just generally a superb service to the community
  – Jim Higgins

Its the nearest open space with trees, peace, tranquility and wildlife to Cambridge. We love its un-manicured quality.
  – Sonia Spinks

Milton Country Park is a fantastic place for children to experience nature, and to learn about natural habitats. My 3 year old son jumps up and down with excitement when he hears we are going to visit, and every time we go we see something new. I am appalled at the thought of closing such a popular and unique place which enriches so many people's lives.
  – Lucy Seffen

The Park's proximity to Cambridge and the Science park is of great importance as a place to visit, and it is extremely well maintained. If closed it would be vandalised in days.
  – Dr Zbigniew Karpowicz

In a time when the govenment are trying to reduce obesity and encourage children to be more active is this not terribly shortsighted.
  – Caroline Clarke

There are very few recreational sites in or around cambridge .planned housing expansion means we need more facilities like this ,so how can any thinking person close such a spendid resource
  – Bruce Hunter

This park give a sense of community, a place to meet friends a place to relax. This is a very important place and rather than closing this small paradise we should be opening more around the Cambridgshire area. although we are surrounded by green - these are privately owned areas and we and we do not have the freedom to walk and meet within them.
  – Caroline O'connell

It's such a lovely place to go with the kids on a sunny day to feed the fish, run around and look at wildlife and generally relax
  – Christine Barrie

It is a substantial green lung of the county
  – Peter Constable

The park is a brilliant place to introduce children to the natural environment on their doorstep, bird-watching pond-dipping, and so on.
  – David Williams

I live in York and clearly do not visit the park.. However, as someone who regularly visits parks, woods, nature reserves and sites of natural interest in York I can honestly say that the thought of closing ANY country park is horrendous. We are living in a climate right now where the inbalance of the world is becoming ever more significant and yet, still, people seem bent on closing more and more natural areas all the time. As I write a neighbour is in the process of sawing down a two hundred year old oak from his garden simply because he is tired of tidying up leaves and acorns. It is time people stood up to be counted. Humanity as reached a crux, a pivotal moment; we are teetering on the edge of disaster and it is up to every one of us to make a difference. If by signing this petition and adding my thoughts I can make the smallest of difference it will be worth while. If we all did this then perhaps we could all make a difference.
  – Paul Roper

The park is a fantastic resource for the whole community. Both our children have been involved in youth group activities based in the park, such as treasure hunts and bird spotting. As a family we have paid numerous visits to the park, enjoying the playground facilities and facilities for cycling. There are very few places around or in Cambridge suitable for such activities. Closure of the park would mean taking away an invaluable resource, giving young people and the whole commnity access to wildlife and countryside, just not found in Cambridge itself.
  – Helen Cross

It is an educational place as well as a leisure place and we are privileged to have it - don't destroy it.
  – Erica Duggan

A great assett to the village
  – Pam Hall

Our crowded corner of the SE of England is getting ever more developed and taken over by roads each year. If the Park goes, then we lose a vital resource ecologically and recreationally - spiritually I would even say. Where will there be close at hand for us and our children to really experience the pleasures and freedoms of the countryside?
  – Hero Chalmers

We visit regulary when we comes to cambridgshire to see our daughter ,if you want wildlife and birds it this country park and wicken fen that has to be visited
  – Donald Langford

Milton Country Park is the only large, accessible park this side of Cambridge, and closing it would affect the quality of life massively for all residents around - and for all those working in the area, coming into Cambridge. THis in turn would have an impact on socialising, health, the value of houses (detrimental in economic terms as well). With the Science Park round the corner, Milton and its park are attractive for staff to live within cycling distance. Why, again, turn a pleasant area in a into a suburb dormitory, starting with the closure of an environmental treasure? Dreadful consequences.
  – Florence Littlefair

Beautifully managed and priceless piece of countryside in an area lacking in any other serious conservation work.
  – Carl Brew

I used to use the Park several times a week when I worked on the Science Park and found it a wonderfully relaxing and stress-free environment in which to spend a lunchtime, either walking, running or just watching the wildlife. It is a much-needed facility for the north Cambridge area.
  – Marcus Ennis

It's a really nice local open space where you can escape the rigours of city life! Bird life is a bonus as is the water on a hot summers day.
  – Steve Merrett

The chance of it turning into more housing developments rather than being left as a green space will increase
  – Sarah Leggo

The area in which I live has Cherry Hinton Hall which we use all the time for walks etc. but Milton Park is much more beautiful, more rustic, more diverse wildlife, and quite different which is why we make a point of going over Cambridge to visit it.
  – Christine Woodhouse

It's one of the few safe, peaceful places to go as a family which is conveniently located. My daughter loves the playground, watching the birds and splashing about in her wellies!
  – Rachael Huntley

Too many of our green areas are being taken over, for redeveloping
  – Jo Thulborn

How can it get lottery funding? Little Downham near Ely obtained funding recently for a community orchard - worth asking them?
  – Dale Dawson

As a result of government housing policy on development density, new housing estates are being built with tiny gardens and relatively small green areas. Without areas like the Milton Country Park, parents have few places to take children and dogs for exercise. The government are now trying desperately to encourage an family exercise culture to stave off the problems of childhood obesity, so closing Milton Country Park would fly in the face of common sense.
  – Paul Coghlan

A wonderful park, it would be a disaster should it be lost to your area.
  – Danielle Lowe

More homes are being built. More people crowded together, more council tax collected. Closing the park for a short term saving is totally short sighted; once closed it will never reopen. Vince Lea
  – Vince Lea

Its needed - a quiet space in Milton have seen herons and a kingfisher there
  – Kiran Sharma

I run the Guide unit in Milton village, meeting at the Community Centre on the edge of the Country Park. We use the Country Park, especially in the Spring and Summer months, on a regular basis as a resource for a variety of activities and it will be sad to lose that resource.
  – Tracey Morris

Current concerns about health make it obvious that any facility that promotes exercise is valuable. Milton Country Park is a very well-used facility, and the cost of running it is relatively low in the context of public health costs from stress and obesity related conditions.
  – Rachel Potts

The park is nothing less than an oasis in the wildlife desert that is Cambridge. It must be kept open.
  – Paul Stimpson

Where do we take our kids now to enjoy safe playing in a natural environment
  – Robert Saunders

Although it is beside a major road, the combination of grassy area, trees, walkways and water provides an ideal 'country' setting in the city - the ONLY place of its kind in the north of the city. When people are being constantly exhorted to get off their backsides, and get their children off theirs, in the interests of public health, it seems ludicrous that Cambridge cannot keep this place - without charging for parking, which deters many, including families, people who want to take a disabled person out and anybody who hasn't the time or who cannot reasonably be expected to walk a couple of miles for 'a walk'. In the interests of our mental health as well, it is one of the few quiet, and seemingly safe, places for people of all ages to enjoy the changing seasons, birds etc. It must also be a godsend for people with dogs. Other quiet spots exist in the city, but their regular use for the consumption of drugs and alcohol doesn't endear them to most people, including those with small children, the elderly and people who occasionally fancy a walk on their own. Untold amounts of money are spent in the city on holding up our progress in our cars, proliferation of unnecessary traffic lights, building dangerous and unsightly impedimenta into our streets, controlling our simplest, shortest parking needs and charging us outrageously for the privilege. If those are priorities instead of the provision of a clearly healthy amenity like Milton Country Park I am speechless, but not surprised.
  – Alison McRobb

This is a haven for people of all ages, abilities and also sports. It must not close - we have nowhere else to go (safely) to enjoy so much peace and quite.
  – Samara Cordy

It is hard enough to get access to nice green areas in the first place where we can walk and observe wildlife and see children and all ages enjoying themselves but to then see that facility, now esatablished disappear would be crazy!
  – Arthur William Gibbons

Any loss of open space which would eventually no doubt be developed must be opposed.
  – Paul Waldmann

Cambridge has become so dreadfully traffic-bound and polluted by noise and fumes - this park is a rare little oasis of calm in the midst of it all - it cannot be lost
  – Hilary Appleton

There's not enough parks in Cambridge already and to close this one would be a real shame.
  – Joanne Rees

There are few enough facilities for the normal tax paying residents of this County we cannot afford to lose such a fantastic facility which is available to all
  – Jennifer Ambrose

The park is fantastic for children and it is vital for their educational needs as well. The park helps make Milton such a lovely place to live.
  – Ian Hannah

We need as much natural countryside as possible, and need to STOP building on every bit of land going!
  – Gail Abbott

We live on the North side of Cambridge and can cycle to the park. If the park closes, we would probably drive nearly 10 miles to places like Wandlebury or Anglesey Abbey to be able to go for a walk in some woods.
  – Stephen Clarke

Unique leisure space in a City
  – Claire & Frank Butterfill

In these days of high density housing with small houses and gardens it is ever more important to keep places such as Milton Country Park open and thriving for the public to walk, relax and enjoy the fresh air and open spaces.
  – Jan Clay

Even mentioning to close Milton Country Park is heart breaking. The park is there for everyone to enjoy equally. I believe that closing the park would cause serious threat of crimes that would take place in the area.
  – Zehra Shakespeare

It is hard in this area to have large stretches of still water to look at - it is one of the most tranquil spots.
  – Alison West

The park is just beautiful and cannot be closed down at any cost. Whenever we go there are losts of people in the park who enjoy everything about it.
  – Brenda Laston

There are very few pleasant "wild" outdoor areas available to the public in the immediate vicinity of Cambridge, and the closure of Milton Country park would be a genuine loss for those who appreciate natural beauty. Because the vast majority of the surrounding countryside is dedicated to intensive farming (and therefore stripped of woodland), the park represents a major asset to the community, serving young and old alike.
  – Andrew Leslie

The children I care for enjoy the wide space to run free & we have used the Park to support learning about nature & our environment. As well as nature exploration, the park has provided extensive possibilities for imaginative play; the children have invented games such as Spy Catchers; James Bond style seeking out criminals in hiding in the woods. Sue Barrett Registered Childminder
  – Sue Barrett

I was born and have lived in Cambridge for the last 26 years. I first visited the country park as a small child when I used to fish the lakes with my uncle. I have been a regular visitor ever since. It would truely be devasting if this unique landmark were to close. I plea that this will not be the case for the future of the people of Cambridge.
  – James Ball

For the last 50 years town dwellers have fled to live in rural areas to find places just like Milton Country Park. The result is daily traffic jams on the A14 as they now drive back into Cambridge where most of them still work. Milton Country Park has given local residents a wonderful green space set between a village and a city that have both growing fast, and will grow even faster. Instead of people moving to the countryside, Milton Country Park brought the countyside to the city. Doesn't it make sense ? Lets keep it!
  – Allan Brigham

Amazing piece of wild beauty so close to the city centre. Enormous fun cycling round.
  – Jane Bloomfield

Closing the Country Park will be awful. It is enjoyed by so many and to take it away is wrong. I live in London and there is nowhere like that around where I am, and I enjoy visiting the Park whenever I visit my family in Milton. It is a lovely place to walk and enjoy the wildlife; it's peaceful and pleasant. I, as will so many others, will be appalled if the closure goes ahead!
  – Kerri O'Driscoll

It's a beautiful park - very near my parents - and it would be a great shame to lose such a unique environment.
  – Laura Mansel-Thomas

Wonderful park area so close to Cambridge - don't cover it with buildings!!!
  – Moira Cornwell

It's just such a magical place although it is so close to a built-up area. I really like the variety of wildlife you see there.
  – Rose Elgar

What is noticeable, is how well used the park is and because of its accessibility how easy it is for the local community to enjoy it.
  – Liese Neely

Why lose such an asset; just to make up for the financial blunders of SCDC; recently rate-capped. More people in Northern Fringe will need to use the facilities in the comin years.
  – Murray Walker

Milton CP is a public amenity, like any other public park, it should not have to 'pay its way'and should be publicly funded from rates or central government
  – Robin Bailey

Milton Country Park is now well established and a haven for wildlife. It would be criminal to close such a brilliant amenity.
  – Christine Burgess

It's such an exciting place to visit and explore, with interesting paths that lead to all different places. It has taken me several years of visiting to really get to know it. And the art activities are fantastic! It's a vital resource!
  – Alexandra Tooth

I'd forgotten about the park! I used to take my children there for some quality time but haven't been there for years. If I'd seen some information about it, I'm sure I would have visited more often. With so much money being spent on building, and with so many new homes being built in Cambridgeshire, it's important to have these oases of nature in which to relax and get away from the bustle of daily life.
  – Tony Champion

The park is a lovely wildlife haven in what is otherwise a fairly built-up area. It has a special beauty, and its closure would mean a great loss of an important resource to Cambridge and surrounding areas. I can't imagine, in fact, why anybody would want to close it at all.
  – Eva Simmons

It is a wonderful place to take the children to see local wildlife
  – Carol Miller

This is a beautiful area that provides superb recreation opportunities for both young and old and should be preserved for that purpose.
  – Pamela Ralph

It's a great way to get away from work for my lunch hour. To get away from technology and the hustle from the office (although the noise from the A14 is always there in the back ground). I work in the St John's Innovation Centre just across the A14. It would be a crying shame if it were to close. Why should a park make profit? Isn't that why we pay tax?
  – Joerg Masch

It's a lovely wild green space that my daughter can safely ride her bike in. And my son when he gets bigger.
  – Cressida Downing

Milton Country Park is such a lovely oasis and so easy to get to. While my children were growing up it was our chosen spot for walks on Christmas Day, with new bikes, scooters, kites, frisbees etc. They loved the play area, riding their bikes up and down the hilly paths on the motorway side of the park, and occasional pond-dipping in the spring and summer. Our dogs have benefitted from many happy walks around the park, particularly enjoying the shady trees and a dip the lakes on hot days. The mown areas made great places to practise things we were learning at the dog training club. For me the tea-room has been a much appreciated facility. The visitor's centre is a lovely building and the staff and wardens have always been so helpful and friendly. The toilet facilities are brilliant, so is the free parking. The yellow flag irises in spring are such a beautiful sight. I have a treasured memory of performing songs under lantern-lit trees one cold Autumn night as part of an 'art in the park' event. I love the way so many diverse people use the park, it's great to see wheelchair users and other mobility difficulties using the paths and ramps which make the place so accessible. I think the sensory garden for the blind is brilliant, too. The park is the only place I know locally where you can go on a guided fungal foray, bat walk or to hear the dawn chorus with someone who can identify the different birds. I find it inconceivable that the people of Milton and Cambridge should lose 'their' park.
  – Kay Barrett

I have not been in inside the park but I know the surrounding countryside well. It is strategicaly located within reach of the Science Park and St John's Innovation Centre. I believe that green belt restrictions may be lifted to the North West of the City. This type of amenity will be of benefit not just during the next decade but for over a much a longer period of time, as the city expands.
  – Paul Gans

What happens if the park closes? Presumably it will just become another part of "waste land" until yet another developer move in.
  – V Parfey

The park is somewhere I go when I want quiet and stillness in my busy life.
  – Sue Prytherch

We live just off the A10 and the country park is the only place close to us that we can ride bikes, walk or have picnics in the warmer weather. it's a beautiful place for us to go to and the wild life to live in. I think also it is a great community place and milton wouldn't be the same without it. the council really need to think about what the community need and WANT.
  – Claire Petchell

Cambridge is expanding at an incredible rate and it seems that provision for people to enjoy the outdoors is not being created. Also and probably more importantly with the pressures on our natural environment the park is needed more than ever as a refuge for wildlife and plants.
  – Marcie Roche

It is an oasis for people and wildlife, in an otherwise barren and increasingly urbanised area. When thousands more houses are being planned for the region, more parks like the one at Milton should be provided, not closure of the only one there is. The government says it wants to provide green infrastructure for wildlife and people; the closure of Milton Country Park flys in the face of this objective.
  – Anita Molloy

When I was 15, in July 2003, I was lucky enough to complete my work experience at the park. Arranged through my school, for 2 weeks i was able to get an idea of the world of work and also the incredible effort that the rangers put into their work. If the park was to shut it would be a great shame, it offers a great escape for many people from the busy city life of Cambridge.
  – Dave Roberts

It would mean the loss of yet more green land in and around the city. I think the Arbury park project is big enough- redevelopment or deployment of new housing doesn't mean that you can rob land from just anywhere you like...the park is part of a communal ground of the city and surrounding villages and is as valued as Summer Common or Jesus Green - which again would be valued as land for prime real estate but of course would never be agreed to be built on. I feel the park should be treated with the same respect. Its highly objectionable that they cannot find another piece of land which is already built up to convert.
  – Tayieba Shah

This is a truly beatiful area of natural interest, which has taken a lot of time and effort - not just by Malcolm and the other Rangers and helpers, but others such as disability groups - to make it what it is. It is a place to go to escape from the city, to enjoy the natural beauty of the countryside without having to sit in traffic jams to get there!
  – Allan Hollands

Many nice things to eat there!
  – Mark Weaver

The park is a wonderful resource for children. Please please keep it open.
  – Christina Kidd

I run a day nursery close to Milton. We have taken a group of children to the park on an outing. The trip was extremely successful and the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We hope to do this 2-3 times a year. I hope the park stays open so we can continue to do this. It's great for children to see and enjoy the countryside so close to us and accessible so easily by public transport. They really enjoyed the play ground too.
  – Rachel Purdie

Its a great place for poeple to fish and have a great day out.
  – Jason Waters

No matter who we are, we are all human and as such we all have the human need for peace and quiet, somewhere to get away from the stresses of modern life - 'the rat race'. If green, tranquil places like Milton Country Park keep getting closed down, what are we left with? City streets with all the traffic noise, pollution and aggravation that go with them. Give us a break. Please.
  – Zak Fordham

Nowhere else in this country have I seen a family group of three kingfishers together in flight & across a lake) which for this reason alone makes it personally very precious, besides the much wider common considerations of free public access for nature recreation.
  – Michael Kulynycz

We need all the green space we can have. Money rules however and any way we can stop this scenario should be encouraged.
  – Paul Gaffan

A precious amenity, much needed in our fast busy lives.
  – Frances Watt

The park is a lovely place just to stroll and enjoy the countryside. We often take visitors there as it's close to home and a really nice place to go. It would be a real loss because of the wildlife that has made it their home.
  – Kerry Upchurch

Loss of open space as especially as every bit of land seems to be up for housing eg Arbury Park development Enviromental impact Our xchilderens future Cost of using recreational facilities eg sports facilities Park is basically free!!!!Once lost never will be replaced
  – Julie Taylor

It is a beautiful and peaceful space very much needed in the present busy environment we live in. It is a vital area to be enjoyed by all ages and a vital place for wildlife to flourish.
  – Clare Hariri

It would be a great shame to lose this facility, as it is good for the children and is a tranquil spot for many people.
  – Diane Nunn

All green spaces should be preserved for wildlife and people
  – Ellen Ridler

In an age where every flat surface is having something built on it Milton County Park is a haven for wildlife and humans. It surprises me that given the huge cost associated with healthcare that could be avoided by exercise, our local government is trying to take away one of the best resources we have just to walk.
  – Jim Lees

The park gives so much to the public, not to mention the birds and animals that thrive there! This is a vital resource for the local and wider community, and must not be closed.
  – Rosalind Feast

It is close to where we live and to tesco so I can go in the park with my children who enjoy it very much to play and explore the wildlife, while my husband is shopping.
  – Anita Marguerie

Milton Country Park is a vital link between the city and nature. It's a fantastic escape from the bustle of modern life, a great place to go for peace and relaxation. It would be a tradgedy if the Council allowed the park to close.
  – Michael Fraser

It is a great place for people with learning difficulties to participate in a working environment dealing with people, carrying out multi tasks, assisting people etc. Valuable skills training that would be lost. In a few years time, I hope to go there for painting and drawing exercises
  – Sue Scott

Why close the one open space available to all the family when emphasis is on keeping fit and enjoying simple leisure activities
  – Sheila Gunn

My children will be so upset to hear this news. We go there from Ely most Sundays. When he was tiny, my son used to say that he was going on "an adventure" there; it seemed so big and exciting. Now they're bigger, we take the bikes, and watch the birds, stop off in the sensory garden and at the playpark. "You don't know what you've got til it's gone."
  – Pat Colebourne

We use the park several times a year as it is not very far away from us. A few years ago, with 4 young children under 6 at the time, the park really helped me to get a sense of perspective again when things got too much cooped up at home. The children love the park, the ducks, and the walks round the lake. Followed by a lovely cup of coffee or an ice cream, depending on the weather. It would be a crime to close Milton Country Park, what is offered in exchange? This is all very short sighted.
  – Lynne Coulstock

Where else is there to walk with your family in a safe and happy environment? We are turning into a nation that does not care about its wildlife and I don't like it.
  – Julie Taylor

At a time when people are being encouraged to exercise more it would be contradictory to remove a facility which provides opportunities for walking & cycling & play for children. Also, with ever-increasing pressures on wildlife habitats, the loss of a country park would only exacerbate the problem.
  – Jean Murray

i think its a very nice park its been there for a long time so it would be nice if it stayed there
  – Luke Roberts

For many of the villages north of Cambridge, there are very few places where you can do a circular walk. If MCP closes either fewer people will exercise (exacerbating obesity and poor health and increasing strain on NHS) or people will have to travel further by car to other amenities (which is bad for the environment). Either way it is bad policy.
  – Colin Blackman

Cambridge City and South Cambs are being swamped by new development. We must protect the green spaces we already have. We should be looking to extend country parks not closing them
  – Rosemary Pryke

There are many places in Cambridge where one can walk in some sort of woodland and Milton Country Park is easy accessible, interesting with its woodland, meadows and lakes.
  – Sigrid Disley

As more and more green and other spaces become housing around Cambridge, there is more need for open spaces where our children can experience things other than brick and concrete. The park is a friendly, and child-friendly, space that is invaluable to Milton residents, but also to the wider Cambridge area residents.
  – Saba Alai

Cambridgeshire lacks wooded scenery & places to walk. So many open flat fields! what a shame if the park closes. Also, people focus on healthy lifestyle. Closing a park is unhealthy.
  – Frances Lipscombe

What a scandal! Cambridgeshire without Milton Country Park is like SCDC without Cambourne. We can't let them take it away!
  – Helen Daniel

The widlife is so well established and a haven for many species it would be a crime to remove thier environment.
  – Carol Parfey

It is such a peaceful place to take some time off and relax. it can not be built on that is just ludicrus it will destroy the community of Cambridge and Milton. I have met so many lovely people there.
  – Linda Aguilar

One of the biggest worries is what will they do with the site, once closed?? MORE built up housing? Or a shopping mall we don't need? We are losing more and more green areas it is very sad.
  – Nicola Hawksley

Milton Country Park is an uplifting place to go, its so nice to have accessible countryside for Cambridge residents. With all the new housing development it is even more important that the future of the park is assured.
  – Christine Ford

There is NO other equivalent facility for miles. Cambridge is large enough to have such a facility by right.
  – Dennis Murrell

There is nothing quite like it locally, with short country walks and lakes.
  – Robert Heap

There are very few park areas in the city of Cambridge
  – Linda Maile

Aside from the fact that the wildlife that has its natural habitat in the park would lose their homes, this is a nice, local, open space to enjoy and it would be a very big shame to lose this asset.
  – Wendy Windscheffel

The social implications of the closure of this widely used facility should far out weigh the financial issues. Why does everything (these days!) have to be based soley on their financial feasibility?
  – Lucy Williams

The park is Really lovely place to come, tranquill, peaceful and a good place to get away from it all and chill out.
  – Joanna Reed

It's great to be able to go somewhere out of town for walks where you can still feel safe as a single female, i wouldn't be happy to go walking in the countryside by myself but the country park is different.
  – Dawn Williams

Green spaces are a valuable community resource in city life. Once these spaces have been turned into housing, we will never be able to get them back.
  – Sonia Trickey

This is a very important amenity not only for the 'locals' but for 'outsiders' like me,as i am more than pleased to travel from st.neots
  – Michael Reed

It is not just individuals that use the park, we have used the park through various organisations as a family: Brownies, Cubs, Scouts, playgroups, works BBQ(Addenbrookes). we have also attened a pre school learning alliance picnic aw well as outdoor music events. With the potential of the rowing lake i'm sure even more people will visit the park. With new housing at Arbury park and the proposal to build housing on the current park and ride site, all these families need green space for leisure and activities, dog walking and exercise
  – Claire Purvis

Ever since I moved to Cambridge the Country Park has been a big part of my life. After having my first baby I went to the park every day with her so we could experience the beauty of the changing seasons together. Now I have three children and the Country Park is always there. We watch the cygnets grow, feed the ducks, play hide and seek in the trees, have fun in the play area and just enjoy being with nature. Over the past twelve years the Country Park has been a part of my family's life. We can't bear to think that we may lose such a precious place.
  – Stephanie Smith

Milton Country Park is a wonderful asset for the community and must be preserved for future generations as more of our countryside is eaten up with new build to meet Government requirements. Our grandchildren deserve somewhere to play and watch wildlife. What will happen to the site if it is no longer a Country Park - you can't build on water. Will it be sold off as a park to a private company? Then we will all be overcharged to get in as no one will buy it unless they can make a profit. Wandlebury manages to attract visitors with it's parking charges so why not have a small charge at Milton - it might help.
  – Sandra Day

Just the kind of space children need - not just a play area but a place for exploring and 'adventures'. Its a much needed escape from the pressures of school and our busy modern lives. As a family we would be devastated to lose it.
  – Caroline Baker

The park plays an extremely important part in making Milton a very special place to live and visit. My grandchildren's childhood will be infinitely poorer without it.
  – Elizabeth Everitt

The country park is a place thats great to goto when you need some space, the ranges there have done such a good job in making it a place where you can feel close to nature , even with the park being close to a city and moterway. If it were to close it would be a huge lose to nature and people.
  – Jayne Duncan

It's a public amenity - you don't close roads do you? or turn street lights off?
  – Simon Reeves

Milton Country park is a wildlife oasis in the SPREADING urban sprawl of Cambridge.
  – Gordon Carter

I don't visit the park much now as I live in Godmanchester, but used to go to the college in milton and it is an important part of the local community and further.
  – Jenny Amos

Just because we live in the centre of Cambridge doesn't mean we don't appreciate the park (and Wandlebury and Grantchester meadows etc) - quite the opposite, its because we don't have countryside in the city centre that we need places like Milton Country Park all the more
  – Sarah Monk

The Park is a great place for walking and taking children to play. I have a six months old baby and we used to spend a lot of time in the park at his early days. There are not many places in Cambridge to go for a walk with a baby to be away from traffic. Walking along the river is an alternative, however, there are no facilities for feeding and nappy changing which makes any walk a bit stressful as you constantly think that the baby is going to get hungry or wet and you have to go back home. I know many other young mums who go to the Park very often. We also have a Buggy Fit classes there which is a great fun for mums and babies. We have a nice cup of tea and a chat afterwards in the Park's cafe. If the Park is closed, there won't be any other convinient place to go.
  – Gregory Olga

Why not introduce camping. Small boat trips for schools. More refreshments in the middle of the park. Horse and cart trips etc.
  – Andrews Elaine

A lot of local preschool groups use the park. For some children this is their first experience of being in a country environment, enjoying the open space and getting close to nature.
  – Jacqueline Ramjee

So much building is going on in Cambridgeshire e.g. Arbury Estate that is very close to Milton Country Park. It is such a valuable asset in terms of leisure, educational resource, and more important, for the environment and conservation etc, and we need shared open spaces, open to the public - the lungs of Cambridgeshire.
  – Maggie Craig

It is not credible that an affluent city like Cambridge and it's environs cannot support this most essential recreational/natural environment for the benefit of all who live close by.
  – Adrian George

I have enjoyed finding some fabulous wildlife in the park, including Nightingales and Bee Orchids; it's remarkable they occur so close to the City.
  – Richard Thomas

Milton Country Park is a beautiful place to visit with my family. The children have freedom to walk without worrying about cars and are also able to watch and learn about local wildlife. There is no other nearby amenity to match Milton Country Park.
  – Katherine Brierton

Living in a busy city like Cambridge, we really appreciate taking our family of five into a peaceful, open, clean space where the children can run, cycle and walk in safety.
  – Lisa Hastings

I find it supremely ironic that SCDC, who have spend a fortune on their own new premises in Cambourne, are not prepared to pay for this resource for the community at large.
  – Leslie Ray

It is a beautiful green space; these are disappearing into building sites etc and they are essential to the quality of life, especially those with no open space around their homes
  – Daniel and Margaret Brown

This is a well managed conservation area - which if closed would become a dangerous place for local children - who being children - would still go there - especially if they are told they are not allowed to go.
  – Steven Levitt

The park is used by so many people every day. I as a resident feel strongly that it is a huge mistake to close the park and will do whatever I can to save it as I am lucky enough to use it in so many relaxing ways. From my opinion we have to keep it!!!!!
  – Katie Wilkins

The difference it has made to many peoples lives by having somewhere they can go in natural surroundings.
  – Lorna & godfrey Sheen

Milton Park is the only place of its kind north of Cambridge. It's the only place I know locally that has open water. Cambridgeshire is the least wooded county in the UK. There are no woods easily accessible north of Cambridge. The only other comparable place to go is the Gogs but they are a 30 minute drive away. We're encouraged to do more exercise, use your car less but there is just no where to go! This is the one thing that makes me want to go and live elsewhere.
  – Kristoffer Semple

All the young people I work with at the local youth club access and use the park on a daily basis. It provides them with a place to meet up - go fishing and socialise. If the park is taken away from them there will be even less facilities for them in Milton and the likelihood of anti-social behaviour and 'extremely bored teenages' could become a problem.
  – Andrea Cramp

My husband has fished in the lakes long before it became a country park ,in the 32 years we have lived in our neighbourhood ,our kids played ,fished and rode their bikes in this park ,when no-one managed it .Now our grandchildren enjoy the benefits ,this a quiet peaceful place to escape to when weather permits ,and somewhere to have lunch when you are working neaby ,if New York can have an unthreatened park in the middle of their city why cant we .No -one seems to complain about how much it cost to keep that open ,and if everyone was to pay £2 a day for a parking fee there would be more than enough to help pay for this park ,I for one only have a moped ,but I would not object to paying to help with the upkeep ,after all the park supplies me with enough blackberrys in september to make some very delicious jams .
  – Kathleen Cann

Its a place where i've spent many enjoyable years fishing and using it as an escape to the outside world, i'd be devastated if the park was to close I use it massively throughout the year and the place is a big part of my life.
  – James Brennan

There are very few places around here that you can freely walk and be at peace with yourself and not feel that you are infringing on other peoples property. The trees are so beautiful and this area has so few woods. Please don't close this park, it is always such a joy to come here and in the summer the birdsong lifts ones spirits like nothing else.
  – Maureen Lee

There can never be enough green space in a city and this is a beautiful addition to the area.
  – Diane Philbey

Most councils particularly in largely urban areas make the best of the open areas, invest in them, and maximise on their potential. In an age of escalating obesity, with a 'couch potato' culture, surely the council should keep in line with government recommendations, and encourage outdoor activities and exercise!
  – Angela Carpenter

we would lose a vital part of village environment which is very important to everyone.
  – Cllr Helen Kember

This is a valuable place for the people of Cambridge and Milton to get away from the urban areas and relax in a nature setting
  – Brenda Smith

One of the reasons that all of the community desparately needs the park to stay open is the multi usage of it. from a personel point of view the park is used in a scacred way by local people who have an earth based spirituality, without the park we would have no where to meet, no where to hold our gatherings. The area iaround the park is an agricultural area, there is no where to freely roam, taking away the park is depriving us of the very few peices of the natuaral world that we have access to - how cruel and heartless is that?
  – Janis Oulfkih

Milton Country Park is a haven of peace and quiet right in the middle of an area bustling with traffic and other worldly activities. It benefits the public to just take time out to stop and smell the fresh air and observe the other living things sharing this planet with us. There is no where else close enough to be able to do this for many of us, and aren't we taxed enough by local government to pay for this small green space? The activities reun by the Rangers here are very educational and give children a real sense of nature and therefore instils in them conservationist attitudes
  – Denise Twinn

As the Cambridge urban area grows we need these oases where people can go and feel the sense of nature. If people have the opportunity to appreciate nature they might be just that bit more willing to make those lifestyle changes necessary to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
  – Jon Pavey

Milton Country Park is somewhere close to Cambridge to go, just to have a walk, its also got a fantastic play area for children, which is always packed at weekends, it would be very sad if it were to close.
  – Sue Cracknell

Walking/cycling distance from Cambridge, this is one of the few spots where one can enjoy a relaxing time walking among many paths, enjoying the ponds and the peaceful atmostphere. We have one child and this park was a real find to provide that quintessential outdoors outing for those days when we need something close by.
  – Nadine Christiansen

We need green spaces, to explore, to unwind, to share with nature, to feel refreshed, to enhance our existance.
  – Louise Taylor

I have many memories from when I was young. Spending a lot of time there with friends. It is a great asset to Cambridgeshire. I do not know of anywhere in this area like it.
  – Andy Tripp

A fantastic local resource. A place where I can take my children for a play, meet with friends for a picnic or spend an hour or two escaping from the rush of life. If South Cambs persisits in its wish to close Milton Country Park, then it will be guilty of depriving the local community of something that it doesn't even seem to understand.
  – Angie Ridley

I started fishing when i was 7 (20 years ago) when it was just a wild haven to explore. i have spent some of the most memorable times of my childhood around the park, i have seen english wild life to the full, kingfishers on my rods, deer socialising on the main paths on an early summers morning, mink, fox's and of course stunning fish of which only a few lucky souls really know about. to the loose the park would be to loose a mass part of my years growing up.
  – Gareth Allen

The need for housing in this region means that we are building with small gardens and rapidly reducing our open spaces. if we also take away public open areas we are incresing the likelyhood of health problems. we are heading towards a nation of obesity, it will cost more to deal with the health issues in the future if we save money now by closing the park.
  – Sue Gemmell

As ever more earth in Cambridgeshire is smothered in tarmac and concrete, we increasingly need oases of natural park land as Milton Country Park.
  – Trevor Millar

It is a sanctuary in a busy, demanding world and a fantastic place for wildlife. I used to live on the edge of the Park and it continues to hold a special place in my heart, 7 years on.
  – Angela Dearsley

It's convenient to get to, and there is nowhere else quite like it.
  – Angela Allin

Cafe, public convenience and beautiful rural and water facility so close to central Cambridge.
  – Andrew & Mila Ashenden

Not many green, open places to see birds, trees ,wild flowers left in Cambridge. As every available piece of land gets built upon.It is the only place of its' kind and needs to be retained for the benefit of local children; and for our sanity of mind ,to be able to walk in a natural environment and to take our dog.
  – Pam Lumsden

This is a unique environment for all sorts of wildlife (including children!!) - it is not only used by South Cambs villagers, but is an amenity used by residents of the County & beyond!!
  – Niki Beasley

It would be a shame to have nowhere to go with the dog while my wife visits Tescos!
  – Mick Lumsden

I use the park for meditation and spiritual wellbeing. There are less and less natural spots and I firmly believe the distruction of these is detrimental to my and others physical and spiritual wellbeing. They are a natural heritage and legacy that should be handed down from generation to generation. once they have been destroyed they cannot be rebuild. As a subject in a democratic society, we vote and entrust a council to protect our rights and needs, making decisions that will severly and detrimentally effect our environment and health is nothing short of betrayel of our trust. environmentalists, scietist andeveryday people know that nature is not just a source of enjoyment but necessary for the very survival of our planet. Every little area of destruction contributes to the global demise. Economic greed is no substitute for quality of life. What is the use of a bank account in the black if we have to live in an ugly grey world devoid of greenery, vegatation and life. Please do not do this to us
  – Steven Aronson

I no longer live in Cambridge but used the park when I lived and worked there. It would be such a shame to close it.
  – Sharon Heinrich

I worked at a children's hospice nearby for 11 years & it was a wonderful place to take the sick child & also their siblings on seperate occasions. I now use it in my free time & hope to i my retirement. I have painted there several times & feel it is a great local amenity.
  – Hilary Rickards

The park is one of the few natural areas near to cambridge city.
  – Mark Perkins

For a supposedly environmentally sound council it is a ridiculous decision to close on eof the few areas that city children can get some appriciation of the countryside
  – Mark Squires

Facilities like this are few and far between. It would be a great loss to many people if it were closed and should be preserved for future generations to enjoy.
  – Neil Rolls

There are not many good walks that are accessible to Cambridge - this is one of the nicest!
  – Joanna Camus

We all know the local council wants to profit from the 2012 Olympics by redeveloping the site. Extremely cynical in their justification they cannot support it financially ... so what have they been doing since 1992?! More destruction of the local biodiversity and depriving Cambs of some local "lungs".
  – James Bourne

In amongst the motorways, the housing developments, Tesco sprawl and non-creative urbanisation there has to be open space where people can meet with their natural surroundings. So any attempt to abolish this wonderful amenity especially if it is only to provide council with a short term revenue gain has to be resisted.
  – Malcolm Bourne

There are no other parks like it and it would be tragic to loose!
  – Zoe Wilderspin

i think it would be really bad because me and my family have been going to the park for ages, we've had loads of great memories there.
  – Sara Hunter

It is a very beautiful place. There may be lots of parks in Cambridge city but it's a pain to get in and park with all the traffic. It's lovely to have somewhere so accessible for all those living around the edge of the city.
  – Jenny Warwick
